When we think of going to the beach, we might envision escaping to a far-flung destination, but there are countless beaches with scenic sea views and top-notch amenities in the United States.

There are prime shorelines in Hawaii, California, and Florida as well as scores of options located in between. So, how do you prioritize beaches to visit?

Around 90 million cases of illness due to water recreation occur in the USA with costs up to $3.7 billion annually, according to estimates. Almost 60 percent of those illnesses are attributed to swimming, but many similar ailments go unreported. 

Gastrointestinal, sinus and respiratory issues are common when playing in problematic lakes, oceans, rivers and ponds.
