Demand Elected Officials Support Museum Services Now

Submitted by ub on

Dear public servant:

I am writing to ask you to sign on to the appropriations letter being circulated by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, requesting funding for the Office of Museum Services (OMS) at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). It is funded through the Senate Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittee.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary federal agency responsible for supporting the nation's 17,500+ museums. Its Office of Museum Services awards grants to museums of all types for educational programming, technology upgrades, and preservation of treasured collections.

Museums are economic engines and play an essential role in the nation's educational infrastructure, spending more than $2 billion a year on education. They are also community anchors, addressing challenges in the fields of healthcare, energy, disabilities, and poverty.

Kindest regards,

J Q Public
