300 Hispanic Catholic leaders from the eight dioceses of NY will gather for the Regional V Encuentro at The Desmond Hotel in Albany, New York from June 22 to June 24 to discuss the future of Hispanic Ministry in the Catholic Church. The Regional V Encuentro will begin with early registration on Friday, June 22 at 4:00 PM at The Desmond Hotel Albany, 660 Albany Shaker Road, Albany, New York 12211, and conclude with a bilingual Mass on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at 10A. The main program for the Regional V Encuentro begins on Saturday, June 23 at 9:00 AM with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Edward Scharfenberger of the Diocese of Albany and a keynote address by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio Ambassador to the United States.
Following the Mass, 300 delegates representing the Archdiocese of New York and the Dioceses of Albany, Brooklyn, Buffalo, Ogdensberg, Rochester, Rockville Center, and Syracuse will gather in working groups to discern and discuss the ways in which the Catholic Church in the United States can most appropriately respond to the needs of the Hispanic/Latino faithful, and help strengthen their call to the “New Evangelization” as missionary disciples. The delegates participating in the Regional V Encuentro will be building on the work initiated at the parish and diocesan levels, with the goal of formulating a working document of ministerial priorities to present to the United States Bishops Conference at the National V Encuentro in September 2018.
Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of the Diocese of Brooklyn will celebrate the Regional V Encuentro’s closing Mass on Sunday, June 24 at 10:00 AM. Bishop Robert Brennan, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Center will deliver the homily.
In addition to the Ordinaries and the delegates representing the eight dioceses participating in the Regional V Encuentro, a consultative team of theologians, professors, catechetical, and community leaders will be present to accompany and guide the delegates through the discernment process, paying close attention to the voices of the youth and young adults. Pope Francis reminds us that the V Encuentro “is part of a greater process of renewal and missionary outreach, one to which all of our local churches are called.” As such, the V Encuentro invites all Catholics to accompany the Latino community in this moment of discernment and encounter.

El Obispo Nicolás DiMarzio de la Diócesis de Brooklyn, celebrará la Misa de clausura del V Encuentro Regional el domingo 24 de junio a las 10:00 AM. El Obispo Robert Brennan, Obispo Auxiliar de la Diócesis de Rockville Center dará la homilía.
Además de los Ordinarios y los delegados que representan a las ocho diócesis que participan en el V Encuentro Regional, un equipo consultivo de teólogos, profesores, catequéticos y líderes comunitarios estará presente para acompañar y guiar a los delegados a través del proceso de discernimiento, prestando especial atención a las voces de los jóvenes y adultos jóvenes. El Papa Francisco nos recuerda que el V Encuentro "es parte de un mayor proceso de renovación y alcance misionero, al que todas nuestras iglesias locales son llamadas". Como tal, el V Encuentro invita a todos los católicos a acompañar a la comunidad hispana/latina en este momento de discernimiento y encuentro.
