Flooded US Misery

Submitted by ub on

The waterlogged central section of the US has become drenched and is now a waterlogged Midwest, and a powerful' Nor'easter is now headed towards the NYC area. There is also a low chance for strong to damaging winds during the Thursday night into Friday night time period, particularly for Long Island and Southeastern Connecticut.

There's more rain ahead for areas of the central US that are already battling serious flooding. A new weather system will begin a three-day romp through the lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys sometime Tuesday, and numerous river systems remain in flood stage due to last week's heavy rain in the central and southern US to the Great Lakes. More rainfall is forecast across the Lower to Mid-Miss. and Tennesse River Valleys today into Wednesday, which will exacerbate the ongoing flood threat. Several days of Elevated-to-Critical fire weather expected in the Southern Plains this week.

Hundreds of river gauges have reported levels above flood stage from the Great Lakes to Texas. Floodwaters on the Ohio River in Louisville and Cincinnati are at their highest level in over 20 years and have stranded residents, ruined cars and submerged local homes and businesses. At least five deaths nationwide are blamed on flooding and tornadoes that struck this weekend.
