STRESSLESS LIFESTYLE

Everyone has days when stress feels overwhelming. While stress is a normal part of life, staying in a constant state of tension without periods of calm can harm overall health.

Chronic stress can speed biological aging across nearly every organ system. Ongoing stress keeps cortisol levels elevated, contributing to muscle loss, insulin resistance, immune dysfunction and skin aging.

Over time, stress may also lead to unhealthy coping behaviors, including poor diet, lack of sleep and physical inactivity, which can worsen its effects.

Persistent stress is linked to higher rates of cardiovascular disease, depression, immune aging and cognitive decline, potentially shortening overall health span.

Experts recommend building short “stress resets” into each day. Even five minutes of slow breathing, a brief walk outside, mindfulness or a social check-in may help reduce inflammation and support healthier aging.

if you’re averaging five hours of sleep per night, aim for five and a half hours. Once that feels doable after a week or two, slowly increase it.

Ever binge a new show and stay up later than planned? Caring for a newborn who interrupts your sleep? Or waking early to fit in a workout?

Many people do not get enough sleep and assume it is not a serious issue. Research suggests otherwise. Too little sleep is associated with about a 15% increase in all-cause mortality. Regularly sleeping fewer than six to seven hours a night is also linked to higher risks of cardiovascular disease, obesity, Type 2 diabetes, depression and dementia.

Sleep should be a priority. It serves as the body’s nightly repair system, affecting metabolism, stress levels, hormone balance and muscle recovery. Over time, poor sleep may accelerate biological aging by increasing inflammation and oxidative stress, both linked to premature aging.

Experts recommend maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, limiting screen time at least an hour before bed, and creating a quiet, cool and comfortable sleep environment.
