WHY: Why not have a great excuse to run on every major holiday of the year -- and for FREE! The Holiday Marathons, a series of races in New York City's fourth-largest park, forsakes the large entry fees common at the corporate-sponsored events that populate running calendars across the country. The Halloween Marathon course is the only trail marathon inside New York City. The course is challenging, beautiful and scenic, a true adventure! All races are FREE and all skill levels are welcome; fun should be had by all!
HOW: People interested in participating can preregister at www.thehalloweenmarathon.com and then just show up on race day to run any of the distances offered.
MORE: Since we started staging these community supported races last Thanksgiving, our mission has been to promote healthier habits on holidays. We want to bring together our local running community and promote exercise, nature and healthier habits. Rather than charging large fees to enter races, we want our events to pay for themselves on a donation based system.
We want pure runners and first timers to come together and to create a running holiday that anyone could enjoy; and to run together the way we were meant to run: Free!
Imagine a national movement where holidays mean healthier habits, being active and coming together for a run. The Holiday Marathons are a celebration of health!
