FREEDOM OF SPEECH or FREE CELL PHONE SERVICES?

Submitted by ub on

Americans don't like it when censorship happens anywhere. We find it unacceptable when it occurs. Was the recent actions in San Francisco the same, or different?

Bay Area Rapid Transit - San Francisco's public transportation agency blocked cell phone service before a planned protest against BART police. This is the first time that we know of that a government agency in the United States has censored cell phones to try to silence criticism against them.

Was BART's decision to shut down access to mobile communications wrong?

Is this a luxury free service, or a basic right and a daily necessity?

Should The Federal Communications Commission launch an investigation into the shutdown?

Was this decision focused on constitutional rights to free speech and freedom of assembly?
