Happy News Year?

Submitted by ub on

The global news during these past months is going in the wrong direction as some folks appear to lose interest in public health. In total, 1 of every 1,000 Americans has reportedly died, with heavier burdens on the elderly and people of color.

As the iconic international New Years' Eve celebrations face calls to be canceled this year because of the pandemic, some folks insist they are a sign of normality and there lies a problem. Celebrations are smaller, shorter, and muted this year amid fears of COVID outbreaks. Things are not normal and everyone needs to realize it NOW. Most New Year celebrations are affected by the pandemic to limit crowds that can spread the global pandemic. The year 2020 was like a dumpster fire approaching a meltdown.

Only time will tell if the year 2021 is going to bring happy and healthy news about the global pandemic in the coming months. With the world approaching 83 million cases and 2 million deaths, there appears to be no end in sight.

The safest way to celebrate the winter holidays is to stay at home with the people you live with. Travel and gatherings with family and friends who do not live with you can increase your chances of getting or spreading COVID-19 or the flu.

Travel may increase your chance of spreading and getting COVID. #CDC continues to recommend postponing plans and staying home, as this is the best way to protect yourself and others this year.

Wear a mask

  • Wear a mask with two or more layers to stop the spread of COVID-19 to protect others and yourself.
  • Wear your mask over your nose and mouth, secure it under your chin, and make sure it fits snugly against the sides of your face.
  • Wear a mask indoors and outdoors.
  • In cold weather, wear your mask under your scarf, ski mask, or balaclava.
  • Keep a spare mask in case your mask becomes wet from the moisture in your breath or from snow or rain.
