It Is What It Is?

POTUS flounders during an interview over the USA Covid19 death toll and that is not all. A phrase that seems to simply state the obvious but actually means "it will be what it is," as in "it ain't gonna change, so deal with it or don’t.

The following Axios interviewer leaves Trump grasping on TV. President Trump’s comments put his ignorance on full display for the entire nation to watch and become energized to #VOTE. Over the last several days, a grim #COVID19 statistic has emerged. One person died every 80 seconds from the coronavirus in America.

USA Confirmed cases 4,665,544 (Yesterday: + 47,511)

American Deaths 154,785 ( Yesterday: +413)

The speaker of this phrase is letting the thing exist in all its rich uniqueness without having to categorize it or analyze it.

The increased use of “it is what it is” may be a sign that people are increasingly comfortable with “states of potentiality,” which are states that could “collapse” to different actual states depending on the context.

As a simple example, in one situation you might interpret a bat as a toy and in another situation, you might interpret a bat as a weapon. Deal with it. It is what it is is an expression used to characterize a frustrating or challenging situation that a person believes cannot be changed and must just be accepted. No other words or apologies offered whatsoever.

“They are dying. That’s true. And it is what it is.” Genuinely one of the most damning things said.

So many Americans are dying, so that is a serious concern. Not It is what it is.
