LIFE EXPERIENCE

After 50, we are supposed to be near "0ver the Hill" territory, then some ignore us and others think we're fools, we know better.

WRONG - Our wide range of experiences and adapting to changes – mentally and physically. Self-esteem soars as we age, as long as we have street smarts and rely on our intelligence and formal education, stay in good health, and be busy. Some people begin to have health issues and start searching for a new sense of purpose following retirement. With increasing life spans, healthier lifestyles, and working to an older age, we may see that change by the time we turn  59+.

We become the morning person we always wanted to be -- in your 60s. Our sleeping patterns shift as we age, so we get sleepier earlier and wake up earlier. Over 65 wakes up during the night, but wishing for a good night’s sleep. We learn the workplace shuns us. No matter how successful or influential we once were, we're now old people. So, don't cling to the mindset and sense of superiority from past jobs, if we don’t let go of that ego, we might lose our new lifestyle.

Reportedly, after 70, society gradually begins to eliminate us. The friends and colleagues we used to meet and socialize with become fewer, and hardly anyone recognizes us at our former workplace. Don't say, "I used to be..." or "I was once..." because the younger generation won't know, and we mustn't feel uncomfortable about it.

At 80, the family slowly eliminates us. Even if we have many children and grandchildren, most of the time we'll be living with our spouse or worse yet by ourselves. When our children visit occasionally, it expresses affection, so don't blame them for coming less often, as they're busy with their own lives.

At 90, the Earth wants to eliminate us. Some of the people we knew have already departed forever. Don't be sad or mournful at this point, because this is the way of life, and everyone will eventually follow this path.

Therefore, while our bodies are still capable, we must continue to live life to the fullest. Eat healthily, drink responsibly, laugh play, and do the things we love.

Remember, the only ones that won't eliminate us are our families and friends. So, meet and greet, communicate more than before, say hello, maintain our presence, be happy, and have no regrets.

Oh, no I almost forgot… We shrink. The longer we live, the more gravity brings us down. The spaces between the bones in your spine -- called vertebrae -- get closer together. That can make us about an inch shorter as we get older.

Last but not least... Samuel Langhorne Clemens was a humorist, publisher, and writer. Mark Twain's novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and its sequel, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. https://www.naplesnews.com/story/weather/hurricanes/2023/07/31/national…
