MOVING ON USA

Submitted by ub on

Americans are always on the move and a new report specifically shows where we’re primarily headed and we are coming from.

The US Census data released as part of the American Community Survey reportedly indicates that many of us are increasingly heading to warmer climates. The survey asked respondents where they live now and if they lived in the same place a year ago. It’s an attempt to understand when and where Americans are moving within the country or what the Census Bureau refers to as state-to-state migration. We keep to moving on.

The American Community Survey asks respondents whether they lived in the same residence 1 year ago. For people who lived in a different residence, the location of their previous residence is collected. ACS uses a series of monthly samples to produce estimates. The state-to-state migration flows are created from tabulations of the state of current residence crossed by state of residence 1 year ago (including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico).

State-to-state migration flows are available starting with the 2005 ACS. Most people reported moving for the standard reasons, like a change in employment, wanting more affordable housing, or hoping to establish a household.

Here are the stats. Check them out for yourself:  https://www.census.gov/data/tables/time-series/demo/geographic-mobility…
