A lower Manhattan parking garage has collapsed in the Financial District, and according to city officials, one is dead so far.
Eyewitnesses say they saw cars hanging precariously from a buckled upper deck and the collapse sounded like an earthquake.
Officials didn’t immediately release any information on additional injuries, but at least one casualty was reportedly seen being carried out on a stretcher.
The collapse happened in the late afternoon at a parking structure on Ann Street, a few blocks from City Hall and the Brooklyn Bridge, and about half a mile from the New York Stock Exchange.
