New York Athletic Club- Travers Island

Athletic Department Internship

Three months minimum

The Athletic Department Staff Intern will assist the Athletic Department in working with the Athletic Chairmen regarding their budgets, travel arrangements and the planning of events. Interns will also work with the Athletic Department to manage and enhance athletic events held at the New York Athletic Club during his/her tenure.

Duties:
* Assist Athletic Chairmen with budgets, travel arrangements and planning of events
* Serve as a staff member of the Travers Island Day Camp when needed
* Assist with the organization and enhancement of Athletic events at the NYAC
* Review the Athletic Department's operating procedures including budgets, fitness/gym manual and computer competency
* Work with current staff to develop new filing systems

Qualifications:
* A basic understanding of amateur athletics and facilities operation
* Willingness to work a flexible schedule when needed (some Saturdays and Sundays)
* Computer experience
* Well developed organizational and communication skills
* Must have excellent inter-personal skills

Human Resources Internship

Three months minimum

The Human Resources Intern will assist the HR Department to ensure that all employee matters, compliance issues and daily assignments are met and maintained.

Duties:
* Assist with activities involving current employees, recruitment and employee placement.
* Work on compliance issues, such as I-9 requirements.
* Handle incoming phone calls, answer questions, and direct calls to appropriate staff
* Filing and implementing new filing system
* Possible implementing of a new HRIS program
* Posting jobs, ensure bulletin boards are updated
* Work on special projects

Qualifications:
* Basic understanding of Human Resources
* Computer literate, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
* Well developed organizational and communication skills
* Must possess excellent interpersonal skills

Catering Intern

Unpaid internship in the Catering Sales Office to assist with administrative duties related to the Catering Sales Department. Work with members and guests to facilitate the coordination and planning of private events at the New York Athletic Club.

Duties:
* Maintain office supply inventory, files, distribute weekly pay checks, answer phone calls
* Coordinate the needs of members and guests who are planning events
* Develop food and beverage menus, room set-ups, audio-visual needs, etc
* Handle deposits, billing and develop Banquet Event Orders for distribution within the Club

Pastry Intern

Prepare baked goods for the New York Athletic Club's dining areas and guest rooms

Duties:
* Ability to work all stations and perform all food preparation tasks in the pastry kitchen.
* Prepare from scratch: batter, dough, pastry and ready to eat products to exact specifications using automated and manual equipment.
* Prepare food products to exact specifications using various pieces of kitchen equipment.
* Main work station in a safe and sanitary manner in accordance to Club, local and state policies and codes.
* Prepare work stations by transporting supplies, food items, equipment or other items necessary for the performance of the functions of the job.

Housekeeping Internship

3 months minimum

The Housekeeping Department Staff Intern will assist the Supervisors in their daily responsibilities, as it pertains to the maintenance of the Club's guest rooms and public areas. Interns will also be assigned to projects on an as needed basis.

Duties:
* Control and inventory of all linens
* Inventory of storeroom, preparing orders and monitoring housekeeping supplies
* Purchasing function of the Housekeeping Department
* Monitoring maintenance activities
* Involvement in daily housekeeping operations
* Handle and resolve complaints, of employees and members
* Training employees
* Ensure compliance of safety rules/regulations
* Inspection of guest rooms
* Inspection of public areas
* Project assignments
* Monitoring and controlling lost and found
* Maintaining VIP and Showrooms according to standard operating procedures

Fitness Professional Internship

Requirements:
* Working towards a degrees in Exercise Science or related field
* Working towards becoming if not already a Certified Personal Trainer (national accredited organization)
* Current CPR/AED certification
* Basic Computer knowledge - Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
* Strong Interpersonal/Communication Skills

Responsibilities:
* Maintain a clean/professional appearance
* Perform fitness assessments ans orientations
* Assist members as appropriate
* Supervise and move around the gym floor during your floor hours
* Respond to medical emergencies as appropriate
* Program design and implementation
* Limit computer use to slow, off-peak times in the fitness center
* Assist fitness manager in program development of fitness center
* Assist fitness manager in administrative tasks as appropriate
* Assist in development and implementation or marketing strategies/promotion of fitness center
* Light duty cleaning and organization of fitness center on a daily basis.
