NYC Bigots Beware

Submitted by ub on

As a foreign-born couple, my wife and I have both been victims of discrimination. We have felt stalking and harassment, which is protected under the law.

In fact, our Condo President was recorded making comments about evicting us and was recently arrested by the NYPD after he and the management representative were caught red-handed stealing our surveillance camera and a NY Judge approved a 2-year order of protection for us and our property. He is now using the other board members and management to continue his harassment.

The NYC Commission on Human Rights has now issued new enforcement guidelines for anti-discrimination statutes, carrying penalties of up to $250,000 for using terms like “illegal alien” or “go back to your country” with intent to demean or humiliate a person or to harass someone with limited English language proficiency.

New York City has made it illegal to threaten to call ICE based on a discriminatory motive or to tell someone "go back to your country." Hate has no place here.

This is a racist term for anybody's race because an asshole thinks that he/her race does not belong in a certain country or state,

The problem with telling somebody "Why don't you go back to your country if you don't like it here" is that both the phrase and the concept are tightly linked with a very narrow, intolerant mindset. To most people, the phrase means "you don't belong here…your presence is unacceptable. Get the hell out."
