Geoffrey Mutai has won the men’s part of the New York City Marathon and, Firehiwot Dado of Ethiopia, 27 has won the women’s race in an unbelievable comeback with a time of two hours, 23 minutes and 15 seconds.

Ms. Dado trailed Mary Keitany by nearly 2.5 minutes at the 15-mile mark but passed her with about a mile left. A fellow Ethiopian, Buzunesh Deba, who lives in the Bronx, came in second. Meanwhile Bronx President Diaz said “I know I speak for all 1.4 million residents of the Bronx when I congratulate one of our own, Buzunesh Deba, on her strong performance in the ING New York City Marathon, where she finished in second place among the female competitors by just four seconds. Ms. Deba is among the best athletes in the world, and her incredible performance today makes that clear to all. She is a great ambassador for our borough, and today she has made myself and all of her fellow Bronxites proud,”
