Orchard Beach 75 Years Old

Submitted by ub on

As Orchard Beach celebrates 75 years, The City Island Historical Society and The City Island Nautical Museum will host an exhibition called " A Landmark Pavilion at Orchard Beach". The exhibit will include City Island and Orchard Beach Images from past and present. The event will be held at the museum on July 17, 2011 @1P. and everyone is welcome.

The above photograph was taken in May, 2011 by City Island Images. That day, local and national politicians, as well as community leaders including Virginia Gallagher, US Representative Jose Serrano, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Assemblyman Michael Benedetto all gathered at Orchard Beach to celebrate it's 75th birthday. The lovely sand sculpture you see was created by Bill Cichone.

Orchard Beach was originally dedicated by Parks Commissioner Robert Moses and New York Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, way back on July 25, 1936. It is now known as The Bronx Riviera.
