On Monday, June 4th, NYC Councilman James Vacca and the City Island Civic Association will partner to protest Mayor Bloombnerg’s proposed budget cuts that would result in the closure of 20 fire companies citywide, most likely including City Island’s Ladder Company 53, as early as July 1, 2012.
FDNY has yet to disclose the specific companies on the chopping block, but Ladder 53, City Island’s only ladder company, has been slated for closure for the past four years. If Ladder 53, were to close, first-alarm response times on City Island would double to nearly 10 minutes.
To participate in a rally to oppose potential closure of City Island’s Ladder Company 53, NYC
Council Member James Vacca and Members of the City Island Civic Association, along with other elected officials and community leaders are urging all City Islanders to show up at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea School, 580 Minnieford Avenue on Monday, June 4, 2012, at 7:30 P.M.
NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg is planning to cut the Fire Department budget again this year that would potentially shit down Ladder 53 Company and this should never ever be on his hit list again. Let your voices be heard downtown, once and for all.
