Say No To Grass

SAY BYE, bye, and never buy grass again: Inspiring Ideas for a "No Mow" Backyard. There are 780 genera and 12,000 species.

Americans love lawns but let's face it: Nice yards take time.

Just think about all the weekend hours you've spent cutting, watering, fertilizing, and weeding for that elusive green grass. In fact, I have friends and neighbors who turned their back-yard into a brick patio. Their front is a cactus rock garden. They too said no to grass.

LOCATION, Location, location also determines the grass you want. The area in the middle of the country is the transition zone. Mixtures of cool- and warm-season grasses are often necessary there, but cool-season varieties are the most successful.

Cool-Season Grasses

  • Bluegrass
  • Perennial ryegrass
  • Tall fescue
  • Fine fescue

Warm-Season Grasses

  • Bahia
  • Common Bermuda
  • Hybrid Bermuda
  • Centipede
  • Zoysia

These guides and maintenance tips for grass, soil, fertilizing, and mowing will help you become an expert in lawn care.
