13 people were killed today, including this gunman during a Washington Navy Yard shooting rampage.

The Washington DC gunman is 34-year-old Aaron Alexis. The Navy says Alexis was discharged after serving as a full-time reservist from 2007 to 2011.

Alexis left the Navy on Jan. 31, 2011, as a petty officer 3rd class. It's not immediately clear why he left. He was working for the fleet logistics support squadron No. 46, in Fort Worth, Texas. The Navy says his home of record was Flushing, Queens in New York City.

Alexis may have gotten into the Navy Yard by using someone's ID card. It is not yet clear if that individual was an accomplice or if that person's ID card was stolen.

Authorities say two gunmen opened fire this morning inside the Washington Navy Yard in an attack on office workers at the heavily secured military installation in the heart of the nation's capital.

The 34 year old gunman who murdered 12 and injured 15 in Washington Navy Yard rampage was reportedly a decorated petty officer, who had left military back in 2011 following previous gun charges.
