SLUT

Taylor Swift released her re-recorded version of 1989 last week - the latest in an ongoing project to regain control of her work.

Taylor Alison Swift is an American superstar singer-songwriter. Recognized for her musical versatility, artistic reinventions, and influence on the music industry, she is a top cultural figure of the 21st century.

Swift began professional songwriting at age 14 and signed with Big Machine Records in 2005 to become a country singer. She released six studio albums under the label, four of them to country radio, starting with her 2006 self-titled album.

There was one song people were especially keen to hear: vault track "Slut!", a song written at the time which never made the original edit.

"Slut!" turned out to be more of a dreamy love song than the furious call to arms its title (and statement exclamation mark) first suggested, but it still gives an insight into what Swift was grappling with back in 2014. I wrote about the song, how Swift initially dealt with the obsession over her love life - and the anger that's emerged since, for BBC Culture.
