Thursday morning, July 4

A reading of the Declaration of Independence highlights the annual commemoration of Independence Day, at St. Paul’s Church N.H.S., in Mt. Vernon, on Thursday, July 4, beginning at 10:30 AM. The reading of America’s founding charter is accompanied by a 13-ring salute on the historic church bell, which was cast in 1758. Keynote speaker is Professor Lisa Keller of SUNY Purchase. Music and refreshments are offered. Following the formal program, the public is invited to tour St. Paul’s, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the 1763 beginning of construction on the field-stone church. Children may enjoy historic games and toys. The site is open from 9 AM to 5 PM.
