STRIKE=HUELGA

More than 11,000 WGA members of the Writers Guild of America are on strike today for the first time in 15 over a decade.

This action will affect our favorite TV shows after, WGA members voted 98 percent in favor of going on strike if no new deal is reached with studios over reduced job opportunities and the loss of some sources of income due to an industry shift toward streaming services.

The strike comes as many of the media organizations producing shows that employ the writers have seen their stock prices decline, prompting cost cuts and layoffs. TV viewers could see an impact with late-night shows, daytime soap operas, and shows such as "Saturday Night Live," which could have early ends to their seasons. The May strike may also delay new seasons of other shows later on in the year. #SNL and late night shows to shut down

Back in the 80s, I decided to leave NBC during a NABET strike and accept an offer from SIN that significantly changed my family’s life and my professional career. The Spanish-language media giant changed its name because although everyone sins, it’s nothing to be proud of, and in Hispanic circles, it means without!

As I became the youngest news executive when the national association of broadcast editors and technicians at NBC News, went on strike, and Univision made me an offer I could not refuse. I then became the Executive producer and launched what is now the highest-rated Spahinsh-language newscast on the planet.

And so it goes…
