STUDENT LOAN LAW

Submitted by ub on

President Obama has signed student loan legislation that will help keep an American education affordable for students at colleges and universities across the United States.

State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher says “SUNY’s partnerships with federal and state officials have enabled us to keep our promise of affordability by putting measures in place such as rational tuition policy, which makes our tuition both affordable and predictable; SUNY Smart Track, which increases financial aid transparency and helps families plan for the costs of college, and Open SUNY, which will increase access to the classes students need to complete their degree on time and with less loan debt.”

There remains bitter partisanship that still makes future deals incredibly difficult. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, called the law part of the “Republican jobs plan,” while House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California said it “stands in stark contrast to the House Republicans’ plan to saddle families with billions more in student debt.”

What do you opine... Politics as usual?
