A tax holiday is a temporary reduction or elimination of a tax. It is synonymous with the tax abatement, tax subsidy or tax reduction. Governments usually create these tax holidays as incentives for business investment

So attention shoppers in Texas, Maryland, and Massachusetts, it's tax-free weekend. As the back-to-school shopping spree continues, states across the country are hosting sales tax holidays to help parents and educators get ready for the new school year.

Other states, such as Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon don't have a state sales.
