I crossed this bridge that stretches across Hangzhou Bay. It is actually the longest bridge crossing an ocean anywhere in the world. It was during one of my travels. This journey was from Shanghai to Ningbo and Hangzhou.
The bridge snakes in an “S” shape across the water, connecting the northern cities of Zhenjiadai, Haiyan, and Jiaxing City to the southern Zhenjiang Province cities of Shuiluwan, Cixi, and Ningbo City.
This amazing architectural structure is 23 miles in length and also features a 476-foot tower that you can do some sightseeing from.
While on my way to visit friends, in the prettiest city in China, the chauffeur was changing lanes and driving so fast that I wound up calling him a crazy cowboy after asking him to please slow down and he did not. Talk about driving over troubled waters.
One of China’s most enduringly popular holiday spots, Hángzhōu’s (杭州) dreamy West Lake panoramas, and fabulously green hills can easily tempt you into long sojourns. Eulogized by poets and applauded by emperors, the lake has intoxicated the Chinese imagination for eons.
The next trip from Shanghai, I decided to take the bullet train, which by the way, and for the record, was going much faster. My fellow passengers were all looking at me because it was hot, humid and I was wearing a short-sleeve shirt. One of them asked me if I was a monkey-man, as he pointed to my hairy arms.
