Government representatives of Russia and The People's Republic of China have managed to veto a United Nations Security Council resolution, which condemns the Syrian government’s crackdown on protests.
At a meeting in the UN, 13 countries voted for the resolution proposed by European and Arab nations that gave strong support to an Arab League plan to end the crackdown and call for President Bashar al-Assad to step aside.
However, representatives for the governments China and Russia have both continued to veto this important internationally supported measure.
