Unhappy Fourth Estate

The Fourth Estate wields a significant influence even though it is not formally recognized as a part of the political system. It is the news media, which is also known as the free press.

In these complex times, the question for Americans who are celebrating year 242 of the quintessential American holiday with fireworks, barbeques, and parades isn’t always so simple to answer. What is the current state of Democracy and for Freedom of The Press?

This whole issue may be just a tempest-in-a-tweetstorm to some, an idiomatic expression meaning an event that has been exaggerated out of proportion, but attacking the working press is not only anti-American, it is dangerous in many ways because journalism has always been the bedrock of Democracy and the real reason why dictators attack the news media.

Ben Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, and Sam Adams were the leading journalists among the Founding Fathers and Thomas Jefferson, the main manipulator of journalists.

Today diversity inside newsrooms is defining journalism and society. Collective, responsible and accurate newsgathering requires professional judgment to make editorial decisions and prevent errors.

Newsrooms create the sense of mission and teamwork that inspire professionalism and dedication by fact-checking news sources and staying tuned to important issues which sustain investigative projects by practicing accountability and discipline when things go wrong. All goes into a coherent product called The News.

Journalists are doing a good job investigating and covering unethical behavior and corruption. Now the public must demand and force a transparent form of government in the sunshine.

This is the reason behind #DONews. The vetted and verifiable platform for a wide variety of editorial content. #DONews allows you to seek news by topics as well as to filter unwanted political drama if you chose to do so. Attacks on the press as enemies of the people may inspire a civic pro-media backlash. Breaking.doseofnews.com

According to Freedom Forum Institute, 43 percent of respondents said that the media try to report the news without bias, an impressive 20-point increase over 2016.

If sustained, that trend is heartening in the face of an unprecedented demagogic onslaught, the mainstream media have done an extraordinary job. As an immigrant, a professional journalist and a naturalized US Citizen, it’s something I have the privilege to participate in, It must always be a day of celebration to enjoy democracy while adhering to truth and justice, the American way.

Though my own AP newsman days are long gone, I have never been as proud of my chosen career as I am now. My advice for all who practice this noble career is trust sometimes but always verify.
