A potentially dangerous winter storm may impact the East Coast beginning Friday through the entire weekend.16 degrees in NYC.

The potent winter storm is forecast to wallop the region with heavy snow and howling winds possible from the Carolinas to Maine. The pair of storm systems may meet and combine off the Eastern Seaboard into a powerful low-pressure system.

At this time, heavy snow, gusty winds, and coastal hazards are possible from North Carolina to New England with the most significant impacts in eastern New England. 

WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING... This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York.

Saturday after midnight the winds ramp up from the northeast. Forty to 50 mph gusts are likely at the coast, and 30 to 40 mph inland. Then as the low-pressure system deepens and heads toward the benchmark, we expect 60 to 70 mph gusts, to 70 to 80 mph winds offshore. This will bring damage and outages across the coast, more scattered inland. The wind continues to stay strong all day.

There is potential for a low-pressure storm system to bring 6-12" of heavy snowfall and high winds to the area Friday night into Saturday night.

Minor to locally moderate coastal impacts is also possible for eastern portions of Long Island and vulnerable north-facing coastal communities along Long Island Sound and the Great South Bay for the Saturday into Sunday high tides.
