The GOP D Reality

If many armed, trained public safety officers aren't meeting the challenge of an assailant, what good could a gun-toting teacher do?

Ban Magazines NOW - A high-capacity magazine ban is a law that bans or otherwise restricts high-capacity magazines, detachable firearm magazines that can hold more than a certain number of rounds of ammunition. For example, in the United States, the now-expired Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 included limits regarding magazines that could hold more than ten rounds. Eight U.S. states, and a number of local governments, ban or regulate magazines that they have legally defined as high-capacity.

However, the Republican party's solution to assault rifles is totally ass nine. They delay deny, distract, denigrate, deflect, and discredit. Read on and you will see what will happen to you and me if any one of us votes for the GOP.

Teachers teach us to read, think, play, and are contributing members of our communities. Here in America, my first school was Miss Calhoun. I fondly remember her assistance in helping me to learn English. I listened to stories, colored pictures, snacked on sliced oranges, and made Miami friends. I wanted to be the first child in the classroom each and every day.

Following the unprecedented number of shootings, politicians, pundits, and representatives of the National Rifle Association has called for arming teachers. So is this a smart or a smart ass idea?

An armed teacher could shoot an unarmed student or a first responder in the chaos of a mass shooting.

What are the odds of survival or success for a teacher armed with a handgun against a shooter carrying an AR-15 who is also wearing body armor?

Where would a teacher store his or her gun? If in a secured location, how will the teacher access that gun during a mass shooting? If in their classroom, even if in a locked drawer, could it be easily stolen? If on their person, does that gun increase risk to students from an accidental discharge? What if the stressed teacher accidentally leaves it sitting on their desk?

Who would pay for the gun and training? Right now, many teachers are struggling to pay for basic school supplies such as crayons and books. Who is going to pay for and provide the ongoing training needed to turn teachers into professional security forces?
