After declaring an emergency in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico last month he arrived with millions, not paper towels.

President Biden ordered Federal assistance to supplement Commonwealth and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from Tropical Storm Fiona.

Today, POTUS surveyed damage from Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico, where tens of thousands of people are still without power two weeks after the storm hit.

President Biden announced more than $60 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to help Puerto Rico become better prepared for future storms.

The Category One hurricane knocked out electrical power to the USA territory of 3.2 million people, 44 percent living below the poverty line.

The President’s action authorized the Department of Homeland Security. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to coordinate all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population, and providing appropriate assistance for required emergency measures, authorized under Title V of the Stafford Act, to save lives and to protect property and public health and safety, and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in all 78 municipalities in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Specifically, FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide at its discretion, equipment, and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency.  Emergency protective measures, including direct federal assistance, will be provided at 75 percent Federal funding.

‘The Biden Administration has: - Reportedly released $1.3 billion for Puerto Rico to protect against future disasters - Announced nearly $700 million in infrastructure investments for Puerto Rico and 60 million in financial aid and deployed more than 1,200 personnel from @fema @USACEHQ @ENERGY and @EPA

I was born in The Caribbean on the neighboring island of Cuba. All across these gorgeous islands, economic devastation is everywhere. A future of climate change and spiraling debt keeps choking the region.
