HOUSE OF MIRRORS

Submitted by ub on

Welcome to the GOP House of Mirrors a traditional attraction in funfairs carnivals and Washington, DC amusement parks.

The only problem is that the Republicans want to ride for free but never, ever go anywhere, but around in circles.

The basic concept behind a house of mirrors is to be a maze-like puzzle (made out of a myriad of mirrors. In addition to the maze, participants are also given mirrors as obstacles, and glass panes to parts of the maze they cannot yet get to. Sometimes the mirrors may be distorted because of different curves, convex, or concave in the glass to give the participants unusual and confusing reflections of themselves, some humorous and others frightening.

The madness began when US Representative Kevin McCarthy (R, CA-20) was ousted as House speaker after the House voted 216 to 210 on a resolution from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R, FL-1) to vacate the leadership role. McCarthy, who had been in the post for under nine months, became the first House speaker in US history to be removed from office.

McCarthy was voted House speaker in January following 15 rounds of voting across four days, after he agreed to many concessions, including lowering the threshold to remove the speaker to one member.

However, this House of Mirrors has been depicted in the media for years.

In Charlie Chaplin's 1928 movie The CircusCharlie Chaplin is chased into a mirror maze by a thief and the police.
