Animal Farm (1945) and Nineteen Eighty-four (1949). Nineteen Eighty-Four is a dystopian vision of a future controlled by government surveillance, propaganda, and thought control.

Trump praised the British novelist George Orwell at the state banquet at Windsor Castle on Wednesday amid growing concerns over a crackdown on free speech.

"A fifth of all of humanity speaks, writes, thinks, and prays in the language born on these isles and perfected in the pages of Shakespeare and Dickens, Tolkien and Lewis, Orwell and Kipling—incredible people, unbelievable people like we have rarely seen before and probably won't see again," Trump said.

Orwell's most famous work, 1984, provides a warning about the suppression of freedom of thought and expression and the consequences of totalitarianism.

The British author was a lifelong socialist, and the term "Orwellian," taken from his name, is commonly used to describe government overreach, censorship, and the erosion of free speech.

Trump's nod to Orwell comes at a time when there are growing concerns about freedom of speech in the U.S.

Animal Farm is a 1954 British-American animated drama and propaganda film commissioned by the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). It was directed by both John Halas and Joy Batchelor, and produced by Halas and Batchelor, based on the 1945 novel of the same name by George Orwell. A successful farmyard revolution by the resident animals vs. the farmer goes horribly wrong as the victors create a new tyranny among themselves.
