55 Years Ago Today: 'Best Rock Band of All Time' Kicked Off Record-Breaking Tour that nearly destroyed the stage.

Pressure from the crowd near the stage became so intense that the band stopped their concert to prevent damaging the stage. 

It was at Madison Square Garden while Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham perform. ware performing and the fans took to the stage.

The concert marked the start of a monthlong tour that included stops in major cities across Canada and the United States. They were an iconic English rock band formed in London in 1968. The group consisted of vocalist Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. They pioneered hard rock and heavy metal, selling over 300 million records worldwide.

Formation: Formed out of the ashes of the band The Yardbirds as "The New Yardbirds" before changing their name.
