Since all politics is local, a phrase coined by former US House Speaker and longtime Democrat Tip O'Neill, 52 year old Adolfo Carrión Jr, who is a City Islander asked his friends and neighbors to vote for him.
Carrión, a former NYC councilman, Bronx Borough President, who briefly worked for president Obama during his first term is the only Latino mayoral candidate. He acknowledged he is a long shot to win the Republican party primary, but added that he will be more effective as a third-party candidate in his bid for Mayor of New York City.
Carrión and his delightful wife Linda traded small talk and listened to a diverse cross section of City Islanders, who gathered at the home of local community activist Susan Bellinson today. He asked everyone there for their support and then outlined his plans to lead this great city, if elected NYC Mayor.
A few dozen locals heard Carrión explain why many more New Yorkers need to participate in the electoral process. The overwhelmingly friendly crowd then asked him questions about public education and quality of life issues.
He told the group that he is moving his offices from water street to midtown Manhattan and invited everyone to contribute to his campaign with cash, or with their time as volunteers.
He says he seeks common-sense solutions to change the tired ways and broken methods of business as usual. Adolfo Carrión Jr. was once a rising Democratic star and is now beginning to gain momentum in his third-party bid for mayor, at least before this friendly down home Bronx neighbors.
Meanwhile, in another island NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn made it official today by announcing that she plans to run for mayor on Twitter and kicking off a five-borough walking tour. This race is bound to get interesting over the next few months. May be best person win.
