NYC's Office of Emergency Management issued a heat alert and opened cooling centers throughout The Bronx. Officials are offering to take in those people who don't have air conditioning, urging residents to take care of their elderly friends and family members, as well as children.

Local area businesses get a traffic boost when these hot temperatures soar because more people are looking for cooler locations to visit. Residents who have to be outside are urged to slow down, stay out of the sun as much as possible and drink plenty of liquids.
