NYC council member Jimmy Vacca has enjoyed another successful summer of a free, co-sponsored “Movies Under the Stars” series and it is sad to see the summer coming to an end.

There is still one more movie and he invites everyone to come out and enjoy one final showing! The last movie, “ParaNorman,” will be this Friday, August 30th at Bronx Park, located at Bronx Park East and Waring Avenue at 7:30 PM.

Please be sure to bring all of your family in friends for a wonderful night out. For any questions, please contact NIDC at (718) 231-9800 extension 14.

WAR POWERS ACT

US Representative Rep. Scott Rigell, a second term Republican from Virginia has penned a letter that will be sent to the president later today.

Rigell is joined by dozens of his Republican and Democratic colleagues in demanding that the president first acquire consent from Congress, citing the War Powers Resolution of 1973, before responding militarily to the Syrian government’s purported use of chemical weapons on Aug. 21.

CITY ISLAND CIVIC MEETING

Two Republican candidates for NYC Mayor appeared before a sparsely crowd of City Islanders on Tuesday night. In fact there were more flies in the room than there were people in the audience. At least two politicians present made fun of the fly infestation inside the community center. Catsimatidis even went as far as telling the group to get air conditioning for his next visit. I guess he will not want to visit The City Island Nautical Museum upstairs either until a decision is made to invest on a needed air conditioning system.

America's diplomatic moves ahead of a multinational military coalition being organized to carry out a surgical strike against Syria has intensified, as the White House prepares to punish Bashar Assad's regime.

President Barack Obama is having discussions with British and Australian Prime Ministers, as well as the French President. These phone calls to allies are preparations to take appropriate actions as The United States lays the groundwork for potential military strike.

Election Day is only ten weeks from today. Please Register To Vote NOW!

There’s one thing you can do right now without even leaving your computer: ask your friends to register, in case they have not done so.

You don’t need to convince them to become volunteers or contributors for any candidate, though that would be very nice just ask them to follow along and stay informed over the next ten weeks.

They can do that with all the usual online tools ... email, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube. And they can sign up for any of those services on many websites.

EDUCATIONAL PLEDGE

Thinking Out-loud: Sorry folks, but the spirit of the civil rights movement is dead; and if not dead, it has definitely been contaminated by people with greed in their pockets --- and not the continued vision and dream of Dr. King..... All I hear is the perpetuation of the "victim game" with no articulation of personal responsibility, character building, and critical thinking. Alberto O. Cappas, President, The Educational Pledge.
