The New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg is having a tough time in the court of law. The Big Gulp ban was recently overturned and now he has been told that his controversial stop-and-frisk policy, which he and NYPD commissioner are so proud of appears to violate constitutional rights and must be altered, according to a federal judge ruling on Monday.

Manhattan Federal Judge Shira Scheindlin, has ordered immediate reforms including a test of body-cameras on cops and also appointed legal counsel Peter Zimroth as a monitor.

NYC Bridge and Street Closures – August 10-11

The Brooklyn Bridge will be closed to Manhattan-bound traffic from 12:01 am on Sunday to 5 am on Monday for rehabilitation work. Motorists should consider using the Williamsburg Bridge or the toll facilities at the Hugh L. Carey (formerly Brooklyn Battery) Tunnel, RFK Bridge or Queens Midtown Tunnel. Throughout this closure the Manhattan Bridge will accommodate 5 lanes of traffic inbound/westbound and two lanes outbound/eastbound.

The following streets in Manhattan will be closed on Saturday from 7 am to 1 pm for DOT Summer Streets:

An interfaith, interracial, intercultural and multilingual relationship requires plenty of work, consideration and effort. After nearly a decade together the two of us will affirm our love and commitment to each other on August, 10 2013 at our special wedding ceremony @ 5:30PM American time, not Cuban, or Chinese time.

NECESSARY DIALOGUE?

Our country has to have an honest conversation about many crucial topics like our crumbling infrastructure, racism and many other important issues..

Instead, we get self described newsmen and women who are more like views men calling civil rights leaders race hustlers, or dismissing the struggle for equality as a grievance industry.

This nation is crying out for respectful dialogue. And one of the few places that conversation can occur is right here.

GEESE CROSSING

Byproducts or not, Geese have become so much a part of the area and of our beautiful community that they merit their own street crossing signs. (Anyone thinks this sign looks like ducks?)

It’s tough to cross busy streets even for a human being, so you can imagine the difficulty for our feathered friends. And in Port Washington sometimes a goose has just gotta go.

Successful National Night Out

National Night Out is organized in conjunction with various police organizations nationwide, is to inform the public about various police and community programs.

Drug prevention initiatives, town watch organizations, or even tips on how to burglar proof your home, are only a few of the educational highlights of a typical National Night Out gathering.

Since National Night Out always occurs on the first Tuesday in August, this year's milestone 30th annual gathering and festivities took place Tuesday, August 6, 2013 in neighborhood communities from coast to coast.

RESTORE VOTING RIGHTS ACT

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, US Representative Jose Serrano, and Bronx President Ruben Diaz Jr. have joined forces with LatinoJustice PRLDEF, Puerto Rican Bar Association and the New York Urban League urging Congress to pass a bipartisan legislative solution to restore the Voting Rights Act and ensure that all New Yorkers have full and equal access to the ballot box.

STEPPING STONES LIGHTHOUSE FOR SALE?

Stepping Stones Lighthouse, which can be seen from City Island just off Kings Point, looks great from far away, but it has belonged to the people of North Hempstead for about five years and none of the specific renovations the town pledged during its application have ever taken place.

The town of North Hempsted continues to claim they lack the necessary funds to fix this place up, but Pam Setchell, President of the Northeast Lighthouse Preservation Group told City Island Images the interior is beyond terrible.
