Celebrate Parents Day Everyday

Submitted by ub on

When I became an adult as a husband, then twice a father, now three times a grandfather, I found myself seeing my own parents less often and since they have both passed away, I miss them both each and everyday.

Since my career required me to live in different locations, I was not able to physically be with them, but I will always be by their side spiritually and emotionally.

I am glad that I was able to send them cards, gifts, and I always called my parents to tell them that I loved them.

The U.S. Department of HUD is inviting public housing authorities across the country to participate in Father's Day 2011 on Saturday, June 18, 2011.

Modeled after a successful event organized by the New York City Housing Authority last year, Father's Day 2011 will bring fathers and their children together to celebrate fatherhood and family, and at the same time connect the fathers to local programs and services.

Lehman Field Falls Short

Submitted by ub on

Lehman High School members as well as alumni of the HS football team are planning to file a law suit against NYC over an under-construction football field that will fall 50 yards short of regulation length.

The Bronx Football team laments having to play all its "home" games away. They say the city School Construction Authority inaccurately planned the $4.5 million field.

The Department Of Education says they never meant to replace the current 80-yard practice field with a full-size one because they claim the Army Corps of Engineers owns the property necessary to expand.

Celebrate Happy Fathers Day

Submitted by ub on

As you know, this Sunday is Father's Day. If you are blessed to have your Dad near you, or you are a Dad, please grab a video camera (borrow if you don't have one) to capture those great stories you're always hearing and sharing.

Get everyone into the picture. Get a group of loved ones telling their stories or jokes, laughing, singing, dancing or sitting around the barbecue grill.

Reshaping Politics

Our very own Bronx Congressional US Representative Joe Crowley D-NY could become on a total Weiner roll.

There are many possibilities flying around about Rep. Anthony (Looks like Beavis and acts like Butt-Head) Weiner. He can either resign, take a leave, face a primary challenge, or get redistricted out of existence. US Congressman Crowley has now emerged into this political mix.

WEDNESDAY WORDS

Submitted by ub on

I once read an e-mail with these words: “Never Complain, Never Explain.” I thought to myself, I can do that. Day after day I tell myself that this is going to be the last day I'll ever complain about anything—and time after time I continue to fail. Then I realize how hard this seemingly simple task is to achieve.

But unfortunately, it’s in our makeup to complain. It’s part of our nature to make excuses, because doing so gets us off the hook. How many times have you caught yourself, or heard others saying:

BEWARE OF TEEN THUGS

According to NYPD, teens have mugged another man in Fordham section of the Bronx. A 16 old punk told his victim to hand over all his money as he squeezed his neck while cornering him on East 197th Street, near Webster Avenue.

The victim handed over $100 while another delinquent pointed a gun at him and acted as a lookout.

These thugs also swiped $90 from the man's wallet before fleeing. Cops caught the teens minutes later.
