NY Department of Health will be conducting aerial larviciding via a low-flying helicopter to help prevent West Nile Virus today, 8/7/12 through 8/9/12 from DAWN TO DUSK daily in Bronx zip codes 10464, 10475.

While three days are allotted for this activity, the application may be completed in less time. In the event of inclement weather, spraying may occur during the same hours thru 8/10/12. For more information, visit http://on.nyc.gov/O2Xl3v or call 311.

Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe joined Courts of Dreams Foundation Chairman Natasha Cornstein, former New York Knick Larry Johnson, and children from the West Bronx Recreation Center, Mosholu Montefiore Community Center, Riverdale Neighborhood House and Kingsbridge Heights Community Center, to cut the ribbon on a $162,000 renovation at Van Cortlandt Park’s Classic Playground basketball courts. After the ribbon cutting, the New York Knicks Groove Truck hosted a basketball clinic for children attending the event.

Marking the 67th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today urged countries to work together to eliminate the threat of nuclear weapons and stressed the importance of honoring victims and survivors by sharing their stories with new generations.

“The tragedy in Hiroshima decades ago continues to resonate today,” Mr. Ban said in a message to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony, honoring those killed when an atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city on 6 August 1945, during the closing stages of the Second World War.
