The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission has just designated a portion of the Grand Concourse as a historic district.

The Bronx Borough President has long been a supporter of this designation, and says he is thrilled that this has finally been achieved.

The Grand Concourse features one of the great repositories of art deco buildings in the United States, and this designation will help to preserve this heritage in Bronx County for generations to come,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

NY Senators David J. Valesky, (D-Oneida), and Jeffrey D. Klein, (D-Bronx/ Westchester), were joined today by nationally recognized anti-abuse advocate and survivor Erin Merryn and others to announce important legislation to stamp out child sexual abuse in New York.

The measure, “Erin Merryn's Law” would require schools to make a change to their existing curriculum for child abduction to include child sex abuse prevention. This alteration would give critically important information to victims – many of whom do not know there is a way out of their horrific situation.

FWD stands for Famine, War, and Drought, the three crises affecting the Horn right now. We’re hoping that you’ll take a look at www.usaid.gov/FWD, read the facts, and simply share them with the people you know so that this tragedy no longer goes overlooked.

Those leaves are turning shades of yellow, red and orange, then will soon be falling, our days are shorter, and apples are ripening for pies and cider.

Soon the winter weather will be here and hopefully a new spring will soon follow. Therefore, now is the time to plan for spring colors with beautiful bulbs.

Whether you want the early spring excitement blooming through the melting snow, the formal look of tulips in mass planting, or fragrant hyacinths, now is the time to plant these wonders.
