Are painkillers also killing your hearing? When you think of risk factors for hearing loss, over-the-counter pain relievers probably aren't among them. But a Harvard study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology suggests that frequent use of ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) may be an important contributor.

TUITION DISCOUNTING STUDY

Many private colleges and universities continue the long trend of increasing discount rates in the 2014-15 academic year, estimates in The 2014 NACUBO Tuition Discounting Study (TDS) show. Discount rates for both first-time, full-time freshmen and all undergraduates reached all-time highs, as did the percentage of students receiving institutional grant aid.

The cost of textbook prices has had many college students and their families struggling for years, especially as they try to balance the spiking cost of tuition, along with purchasing expensive textbooks.

Some students say that textbook prices have increased by nearly triple digits during the last ten years.

Alternative to buying brand-new, print edition textbooks have been available through rental programs, used book markets, and e-textbooks.

MEDIA MADNESS

Why is it that following acts of violence, which causes multiple deaths, the media keeps mentioning the perpetrator? These people who commit crimes are sick people seeking attention and the media gives it to them every time. We need to have conversations with friends and colleagues about this problem.

CITY IMAGES proposes that these criminals be left in the shadows to lurk in their own darkness. The emotional crescendo of family friends and our nation is understandable following tormented losses, most of which are caused by the growing access of guns in this country.

NYC FLYOVER

On August 27, 2015 at approximately 10:30AM there will be a flyover involving four military aircraft near the Statue of Liberty and Freedom Tower in Lower Manhattan.

The event will consist of a B-25, P-51, F-16, and F-22. The planes will converge in New York Harbor and maintain an altitude of 1500 - 2000 feet.

The aircraft will then travel northbound along the Hudson River and land in Newburgh, NY.

ELECTION = DEMOCRACY?

If elected officials refuse to be accountable for all their actions, then democracy seizes to exist and the entire system collapses and dies.

If democracy breaks down, elected representative can easily transform him, or herself into a despot. History has examples of democratically elected leaders who evolved into tyrants. Here are three instances in Asia, Africa and Europe.

Ferdinand Marcos - He was first elected as an idolized figure of the resistance against the Japanese in WWII. When he was ousted in 1986, his government was synonymous with corruption and repression.

Was Donald Trump meaning to say go back to where you came from to Mexican anchorman Jorge Ramos? He had his bodyguards remove the superstar anchorman for doing his job.

The Donald had his security detail remove the Univision personality from his news conference when Ramos started asking pointed questions about Trump's immigration proposal. Jorge was then allowed to return, and later involved Trump in a lengthy argument.
