NYC EMERGENCY DRILL

New York City Department of Health will be conducting an emergency preparedness drill at 30 New York City Department of Education facilities across New York City to test the delivery of emergency medications.

This drill with supply trucks being escorted by NYPD and other law enforcement vehicles, and volunteer staff will receive these supplies and set up medication dispensing operations inside these facilities.

A divide US House of Representatives has decided to abandon a vote on a bill which would have addressed the immigration crisis.

US House Speaker John Boehner cancelled a vote on legislation which would have provided nearly $700 million to help address our nation's immigration crisis with Mexico.

This lack of action places GOP leaders in the embarrassing position of having demanded quick action by Obama to deal with the problem of tens of thousands of children arriving from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, only to refuse these funds necessary to implement this action.

PALESTINIANS or ISRAELIS?

USA and Israel are allies and usually best friends, but this latest war has strained the relationship because many Palestinian civilians have been killed in Gaza. 1,400 dead in 24 days.

Egypt, which has served as a mediator in previous conflicts has changed its tune. It used to have an Islamist party in power, but now it’s ruled by its military, which isn’t as tight with Hamas. It has rallied other Arab nations like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to see things their way.

In the past few months, the world has experienced too many airline disasters and the year is far from over. Lets hope there will not be any more midair terrorist incidents.

According a United Nations report, missiles known as MANPADS, short for Man-Portable Air Defense Systems may not have the long range of the weapon that shot down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over Ukraine. However, these been described as a game changer, a traveler's our worst nightmare and an unprecedented threat.

The New York State Police will increase patrols along the 372 miles of the New York State Thruway and join 14 other states in enforcement effort. NYSP joins law enforcement officials in 14 other states to increase traffic enforcement on one of the country’s most highly-traveled interstates. The "I90/94 Challenge", conducted on I-90 and I-94 across the United States, is part of a four-day effort aimed at saving lives by cracking down on dangerous driving offenses.

Saturday August 2nd, 2014 Sweet Potato Pie Eating Contest at the Market:A pie eating contest is just one more reason why the New Rochelle Farmers Market is the place to be every Saturday.

Regulars at the BID downtown Farmers Market already know about the fabulous, as in really, really good desserts prepared weekly by Diana Scott-Sho, owner/baker of The Luscious Little Dessert Company. If you don’t believe us or your neighbors, her Lemon Chess Pie was described by the New York Times as “dangerously light on the tongue and had that fizzy lemonade aftermath that leaves you feeling at once sated and thirstier than before.” This Saturday, Luscious Little Dessert Company is sponsoring a pie eating contest.

El Condado de la Salsa (the borough of Salsa) will, once again, celebrate the music, the dance, and the artists in a month-long festival bringing together a collaborative of institutions and community-based organizations presenting a variety of Salsa-related activities.
