Labor Day Weekend Gun Violence

The Bronx has once again fallen victim to a wave of disturbing gun violence. In just the 47th Precinct, our borough saw eight separate shooting incidents, and three small children—a 13 year old girl two boys, ages 11 and 10—are among those affected by these senseless acts, both in the 47th Precinct and elsewhere in our borough.

For 40 + years, RAFAEL PINEDA has been NYC's most popular evening news anchor. He has and continues to appear on Univision’s TV 41, WXTV, Paterson. Senor Pineda started at Spanish-language broadcaster back in 1968, the same year the station signed on. He is the oldest and longest tenured anchor in New York City history.

R. Pineda says he woke up to the dramatic first reports of the attack on the World Trade Center.

The 911livingmemorial.org was created by Beverly Eckert and Mary Fetchet, who founders of Voices of September 11th. This nonprofit was founded in 2001 by Fetchet, a clinical social worker and educator who lost her 24-year-old son, and Eckert, who lost her husband in the attacks.

Today the living memorial is an ever-growing online collection of more than 60,000 pictures, tributes and personal mementos. The organization has 13,000 members, families and friends of victims living in the United States and abroad.

NYC World Police & Fire Games

They fight crime, battle blazes––and also play a very good game of football, soccer, dodgeball, rugby and even excel at wrist-wrestling.

The 2011 World Police and Fire Games open in New York City this weekend and until–Sept. 5 across the five boroughs.

This is the first time the games will be held on the East Coast––and New York was chosen as the host city out of respect to the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
