SNL * Still No Latinos * Same Negative Legacy

For forty years, I can not recall a Latino cast member, and the only character profiled was a cast member making fun of a Hispanic: “Baseball been berry, berry good to me!” Repeated as an infamous SNL catchphrase from SNL first black cast member Garrett Morris, appearing as Chico Escuela. He was A character on "Saturday Night Live". Chico Escuela was actually a make belief baseball player from The Dominican Republic . Chico spoke only broken English, so the entire joke centered on him responding to questions with: "Baseball... been berra berra good... to me."

New Yorkers Hibernating?

Residents of The Big Apple have been told to practice the act of Hibernating and to spend this frosty winter day inside close quarters, just like bears and other animals. It is bear-y cold outside, folks.

What about the ones living without heat, or workers who have to be outdoors in this cold weather for a prolonged time can be dangerous. The mayor says to protect yourself and help others who may be at increased risk of health problems from the cold.

The Big Apple will be more like NYC on Ice . An arctic cold front packing dangerous winds of up to 60 mph could make it feel like it’s 20 below zero by Sunday — the coldest wind-chill factor since 1993’s “Storm of the Century,” forecasters warned. Sunday morning conditions will be downright dangerous, with 6 degrees or lower.

Then we will enjoy a special Valentines Day meal at one of her special ethnic restaurants, which has been written up by all the NYC newspapers.

We will follow up with a Valentines Concert from ORQUESTA SINFONICA del ESTADO de MEXICO.

POSITIVE NEWS

The 24/7 news cycle is all about crises, corruption, dysfunction, and all too often often with endless human tragedies. But journalism should be more balanced, complete with positive news.

There needs to be stories about human potential and people who are making a difference by treating others how they'd like to be treated and how they're rising to the occasion.

Lawsuits For Academia

Lawsuits have been filed against MIT and Harvard University for failing to provide closed captioning in online teaching materials, which claim to be in violation of federal anti-discrimination laws.

The lawsuits were filed by the National Association of the Deaf, and it seeks an injunction requiring that closed captioning be provided for all online materials.

These institutions for higher learning provide free online educational resources, and through membership in edX, which offers dozens of MOOCs to students worldwide.
