A powerful earthquake has rocked Southern Japan with at least two people reported dead and multiple injuries after toppling buildings and disrupting power supplies. Officials fear more people could be trapped under collapsed buildings. About 16,000 homes were left without electricity and 38,000 without natural gas service.
