BELDEN POINT PROJECT

It's about time because it took long enough. But if you believe NYC Parks this time, City Island's Belden Point capital project will soon create a small green space and plaza at the southern end of City Island Avenue including new pavement, benches, bollards, and railings.
Bronx county allocated $170,000 for this project, and NY State secured an additional $170,000 grant. The project has been awarded to a contractor, and a contract was registered on March 10. They are currently negotiating a start date with that contractor.
UN CLIMATE CHANGE WARNING

Human interference with the climate system is occurring and climate change poses risks for human
and natural systems. The assessment of impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability evaluates how patterns of risks and potential benefits are shifting due to climate change.
It considers how impacts and risks related to climate change can be reduced and managed through adaptation and mitigation. The report assesses needs, options, opportunities, constraints, resilience, limits and other aspects associated with adaptation.
If the people on earth do not cut pollution of heat-trapping gases, the already noticeable harms of global warming could spiral "out of control," according to warnings from a United Nations scientific panel.

CITY ISLAND BOAT FIRE

Although NYC Department of Environmental Protection claims our air is the cleanest it's been in 50 years, many City Island residents smelled the smoke filled air as a result of a Yacht fire near pilot street.
FDNY units and firefighters were in abundance and the fire in the boatyard was quickly placed under control. Even after the fire was extinguished, fire trucks continued responding. Luckily there were no reported injuries.

Low pressure in the Northeast will continue the rainy weather, with possible flooding on Sunday. Cold air will bring areas of snow from the Great Lakes into Northern New England.
EAST WINDS CONTINUE TONIGHT AS LOW PRESSURE APPROACHES FROM THE SOUTH. TIDES ARE EXPECTED TO RUN AROUND 1/2 TO 1 FT ABOVE ASTRONOMICAL LEVELS. HIGH TIDE WILL OCCUR BETWEEN 10 PM AND 1 AM ACROSS THE WESTERN PORTION OF LONG ISLAND SOUND. A FEW AREAS MAY EXPERIENCE TIDE LEVELS CLOSE TO OR AT MINOR COASTAL FLOODING BENCHMARKS.

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development program called “Rebuild by Design,” which attracted engineers, architects, and designers is considering proposals to defend the New York and New Jersey coastlines.
A series of man made islands off the coast of New York and New Jersey may some day protect the Northeast coast from the impact of deadly storm surges during future Superstorms, like the ones caused by Sandy, according to a new proposal as the region continues its recovery.

IMMIGRATION REFORM?

Since Barack Obama was first elected, there have been over two million people deported from the United States. That’s more than were thrown out of this country under George W. Bush in his eight years and more than double the number during Bill Clinton’s presidency. It’s more than any president, ever.
Why? Perhaps President Obama wanted to prove to Congress that he was tough on immigration, hoping for comprehensive immigration reform. So far, that plan hasn’t worked out.
