NY Probes City Island Project

Submitted by ub on

A City Island, NY condominium complex, which is currently being built on 5 waterfront acres at the end of Fordham street on the sound has run into NY State scrutiny.

The project happens to be the first large-scale residential development on the 200+acre island in approximately 15 years. The sellout value for this residential project is estimated to be about $30 million.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has confirmed that in fact there is an investigation underway and that at this point, it can only provide the following since the investigation is ongoing. The state has conducted a site survey, which found violations of certain permit conditions for the project. DEC has initiated enforcement action related to its findings.

City Images reached out to the developer for an official comment, along with their side of the story. We were told they're looking into it. We will update this information available as it continues to develop.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation was created to protect and enhance the environment, to conserve, improve and protect New York's natural resources and environment and to prevent, abate and control water, land and air pollution, in order to enhance the health, safety and welfare of the people of the state and their overall economic and social well-being.

“Late this summer, DEC informed us that they believed certain conditions of the long-standing DEC Tidal Wetlands Permit issued for the project were not being met during construction work near the project’s shoreline. The development team immediately responded to the DEC, addressed certain conditions, and, since then, has been working with DEC to address any remaining concerns. We are confident that this important development project for City Island will be completed in a beautiful, thoughtful and environmentally protective manner.” By-Jeffrey Simpson, head of Greystone Property Development
