If you ever had the opportunity to meet City Islander Dominic Cassetta, you may be saddened to learn that the deaf-mute painter was hit by a passenger car on Monday night.
According to Buddy's Hardware owner Karl Hoedl, who has gone to visit him a couple of time at Jacobi Hospital, Mr. Cassetta is suffering from brain swelling, multiple fractures, along with severe hear trauma.
Mr. Cassetta, who is in his 60's has been operated on at Jacobi Hospital and is expected to need medical attention along with rehabilitation for some time.
There are some fundraising efforts underway and we will keep our readers posted as further development become available.

John and I visited him again this afternoon and he is improved since last week. He is still in the Surgical ICU at Jacobi. Please try to visit as it helps greatly in his recovery; his deafness and eyesight problems make it hard to communicate with him and we need to augment what the staff there can do by being supportive and encouraging. You can check on him by calling the hospital and asking for the Surgical ICU, 1 718 918 5000. You can also visit. The Surgical ICU is on the 2nd floor. We met Dominic's brother and sister-in-law, Cosmo and Mary, today. They also thought Dominic is improving.
