Aleppo Atrocities

Before today I didn’t have a clue what Aleppo was. I was aware of the war in Syria and the terrible things that were happening there, which is why so many citizens fled to find refuge in other countries, but had no idea about Aleppo. When I first started researching Aleppo,

I decided to look into the history of Aleppo. According to BBC.com, Aleppo is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. So many different groups of people have lived in the city for centuries. This city is so ancient that UNESCO named it a World Heritage site. BBC.com also said, that ever since February of 2012, Aleppo became a battle ground for the rebels and the Syrian government. Both groups wanted to have full control over the city, but the fighting lead to the destruction of many historical sites. Russia has been heavily involved with the Syrian war as they carry out air strikes over the innocent city of Aleppo. According to CNN.com, the Syrian troops believe they are very close to victory and they believe that the Russians are to thank.

I next went over to independent.co.uk and found an article titled, Syria civil war: Locals fear “Aleppo is dying” as rebel stronghold transforms into a battlefield. This article had a picture of a man holding his child after an air raid killed his son and five other members of his family. What is happening in Aleppo is absolutely tragic. Not one person should have to be going through what these people have been going through the past several years. I understand that during war some innocent people will be killed as a result of being collateral damage, but too many innocent people have died.
