What about the children growing up under the thumb of the Unread Red States? https://cimages.me/content/GOP-MAGA-MANIACS

Why isn't everyone outraged? It is puzzling to learn that GOP governors, like Florida's Ron DeSantis and Texas's Greg Abbott, are throwing the people of their states into the garbage disposal with the possibility of destroying an entire generation of Americans.

They are banning books, but not magazines, where they promote a full selection for any rifle, including heavy-duty AR15 magazines and AK-47 magazines. No matter which type you own,  all under the whole WOKE umbrella.

Also, local state legislative sessions have approved the power to override local election boards is also of piece with wave after wave of state legislation that has preempted local minimum wage laws, overturned local gay rights bills, and nullified local paid sick days bills.

Much of the political fire following the 2020 election came from #MAGAManiacs  https://cimages.me/content/GOP-MAGA-MANIACS  demanding state governments override all election counts made by local boards of elections.

While state leaders and legislators in the end could not come up with plausibly legal excuses to do that, since 2021 they have introduced 361 bills with restrictive provisions, many of them aimed at severely limiting the power of local governments over elections.

Progressives must react quickly to every red-state attempt to intimidate and always appeal to reason common sense, and the law, even when they can’t understand it and don’t respond.  Tens of millions of people who didn’t vote—are watching, and have to be shown they must cast a ballot to fight for Democracy, which is worth fighting for. And in addition, to remember that threats to democracy from the right always collapse. Whatever their short-term appeal, they are borne of hubris and hatred and destroy themselves in the end.

Other states are passing laws that bar local election officials from sending out forms to encourage people to register to vote and establishing fines for any local official who deviates from new state rules for conducting elections.

A lot of national attention has been paid to provisions in the new Georgia law making it illegal to give voters waiting in line water or food, but the most radical provision strips the elected Secretary of State of much of his power and gives the state legislature dominance of a state board that now can discipline and remove local election officials.

It also limits where local governments can put drop boxes and when they can be accessed. Other states are in the process of passing similar laws to decisively shift power over elections to state officials.
